What are the latest UK food recalls and allergy alerts?
The UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued 150 food recalls and allergy alerts between 2025-07-03 to 2026-06-25. 84 were Allergy Alerts (undeclared allergens) and the rest were product recalls or food alerts for action. What is a UK food recall?
A food recall is an official safety notice telling people to return or stop eating a food product because it could make them ill. In the UK these notices are published by the Food Standards Agency (FSA). They fall into three types: an Allergy Alert (a product contains an undeclared allergen such as milk, peanuts or gluten that is not on the label), a Product Recall Information Notice (a wider safety issue such as contamination with Listeria, Salmonella, metal, glass or plastic), and a Food Alert For Action (the FSA instructs businesses to act). What to do if you bought a recalled product
- Stop and check. Don't eat it. Open the FSA notice (linked in the table below) and match the exact batch code, use-by date and pack size — recalls usually apply to specific batches, not every pack.
- Return it for a refund. Take the product back to the shop you bought it from. You are entitled to a full refund and do not need a receipt.
- If it's an allergy alert, and you or someone in your household has the named allergy or intolerance, do not consume the product at all.
- If you feel unwell after eating a recalled product, contact NHS 111 or your GP. In an emergency call 999.

What is a food recall?
A food recall is an official notice that a food product should be returned or not eaten because it poses a safety risk — for example contamination with bacteria (such as Listeria or Salmonella), foreign objects (metal, glass or plastic), or an undeclared allergen. In the UK these notices are issued and published by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and, for some products, Food Standards Scotland.
What should I do if I bought a recalled food product?
Do not eat it. Check the FSA notice for the exact batch codes, use-by dates and pack sizes affected, then return the product to the shop you bought it from for a full refund — you do not need a receipt. If you have an allergy named in an allergy alert, do not consume the product even if you feel the amount is small. If you feel unwell after eating a recalled product, contact NHS 111 or your GP.
What is the difference between a product recall and an allergy alert?
An Allergy Alert (AA) warns that a product contains an allergen — such as milk, peanuts or gluten — that is not correctly declared on the label, which is a risk only to people with that allergy or intolerance. A Product Recall Information Notice (PRIN) covers wider safety issues such as microbiological contamination or foreign bodies that can affect anyone. A Food Alert For Action (FAFA) is issued when the FSA needs businesses to take specific action. Over 2025-07-03 to 2026-06-25, 84 of the 150 alerts were Allergy Alerts.
