Check a food hygiene rating
A food hygiene rating is a 0–5 score the Food Standards Agency (FSA) gives a restaurant, takeaway or cafe at its last inspection. Search your town or council below to open its directory and find any business's rating — across 607,906 UK food businesses in 360 local authorities.
Tip: search by the council/area the business is in (for example Birmingham, Camden or Leeds), then find the business by name on the next page.
What the ratings mean
- 5 — Very Good
- 4 — Good
- 3 — Generally Satisfactory
- 2 — Improvement Necessary
- 1 — Major Improvement Necessary
- 0 — Urgent Improvement Necessary
The rating reflects hygiene standards at the most recent inspection — not the taste or quality of the food.
