How to Order Your First Meal on GeraEats — Step-by-Step Walkthrough

Step 1: Install the App
Download GeraEats from the Apple App Store or Google Play. The web app at geraeats.com also works for ordering if you prefer not to install.
Step 2: Create Your Account
Sign up with phone number and email. Verify the SMS code. Add a delivery address — precise is better than approximate (include the flat number, building entrance, or landmark). If you have a Gera account already, sign in with it to use a single profile across Gera products.
Step 3: Browse Restaurants
The app shows restaurants in delivery range of your address. Filter by cuisine, dietary preference (vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free), rating, or delivery time. Each listing shows the estimated delivery time, delivery fee, and minimum order value.
Step 4: Pick Items and Customise
Tap items to add them to your basket. Dish cards show allergen warnings where declared by the restaurant, nutrition info where available, and customisation options (spice level, add-ons, sauces). If you have allergies, read the allergen notes carefully and add a note to the restaurant reinforcing the requirement.
Step 5: Checkout
Checkout shows you the full breakdown before confirming:
- Items and prices.
- Delivery fee for your distance.
- Any service charge.
- Estimated delivery time.
- Optional rider tip.
No surprise surcharges appear after confirmation.
Step 6: Pay
Payment options vary by country. Card, GeraCash, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and local rails — M-Pesa in Kenya, Idram in Armenia, UPI in India, PIX in Brazil, MTN MoMo in Ghana and Uganda, Paystack/Flutterwave in Nigeria. Pick the rail that is simplest for you.
Step 7: Track and Receive
After payment, the app shows the order status — restaurant preparing, rider picked up, rider arriving. You can message the rider through the app if you need to — it preserves privacy by masking your phone number. When the rider arrives, confirm delivery in the app.
Step 8: Rate and Tip
Rate the restaurant and the rider separately; the two ratings feed into two different quality systems. A tip is optional but meaningful — in many markets, the tip is a non-trivial portion of the rider's take-home pay for that order. You can also tip in-app after delivery if you change your mind.
Common Pitfalls
- Imprecise address — use flat number, building name, or landmark.
- Not noting dietary requirements clearly — allergens matter.
- Ignoring the estimated delivery time during peak hours; rush-hour orders are slower.
- Forgetting to check minimum-order thresholds before filling basket.
