Quick answer: GeraEats does not operate in Nigeria. It is in pre-launch in the United Kingdom only, is not taking orders in Lagos, Abuja or anywhere else in Nigeria, and has no Nigerian restaurant partners, riders or payment rails today. The Nigerian food-delivery market

Chowdeck has been the breakout story of 2023–2025, scaling from Lagos to multiple cities. FoodCourt, Glovo (relaunching) and Jumia Food (which exited in 2023) have all taken turns. Gokada and Heyfood round out the list. Rider economics are the biggest unsolved pain — fuel-price changes in 2023 reset the base; riders want daily pay, not weekly.

Regulation

NAFDAC regulates packaged food and beverage products sold in Nigeria, and packaged items are expected to show a valid NAFDAC number. The Lagos State Safety Commission and Consumer Protection Agency have food-vendor standards that local operators work to. The Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 applies to customer data held by Nigerian operators. Rider employment status sits under Nigerian independent-contractor law.

Pricing in naira

On local Nigerian services, delivery fees are typically ₦500–₦1,500 (distance-based), service fees are often a small percentage of the basket, and tipping is optional. GeraEats charges nothing in Nigeria because it takes no orders there.

Payments

Local services commonly offer Paystack, Flutterwave, Opay, Palmpay, Visa/Mastercard/Verve, bank transfer via NIBSS, and cash-on-delivery where the restaurant allows. In Lagos, POS-on-delivery is also common.

Rider pay

Rider pay is a live debate in Nigeria. Some local operators are experimenting with daily pay via NIBSS Instant Payment, typically a base rate plus distance plus a peak multiplier. GeraEats has no riders in Nigeria.

Cities and restaurants

Local services operate across Lagos mainland and island (Lekki, VI, Ikeja, Yaba, Surulere, Ajah), Abuja (Wuse, Maitama, Garki, Gwarinpa), Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Kano and Benin City. GeraEats is not among them: its launch market is the United Kingdom.

How local services compare

Chowdeck is widely seen as the strongest execution in the space. Local operators compete on restaurant commission, rider pay and transparency on service fees. GeraEats is not a Nigerian operator today, so it does not belong in that comparison yet.
